YVTC presents “Spirit of Yucca Valley Award” to Evelyn Conklin

At last night’s Town Council meeting, Timothy McLarney with True North Research presented the results of a recent survey on Town performance. Residents’ top desire was safety and preserving Yucca Valley’s small-town quality. The survey will be posted on social media.

The Yucca Valley Town Council presented the Spirit of Yucca Valley’s Exceptional Accomplishments Award to Evelyn Conklin, who imagined and created the original High Desert Nature Museum in 1964 in the middle of Jacobs Park. Celeste Hilderbrand, the current Museum supervisor, accepted the Conklin award.

The Council also introduced two new employees, Victor Leddua, Engineering Technician 2, and Mikole De Laurentiis, who will work at the Yucca Valley animal shelter. Jordan Gumbash presented the Master fee schedule for fee levels and cost recovery determined through City Council fee adoption. There will be no increases at this time. Additionally, the Council received the 2023 Aquatics and Recreation Center update and reviewed and approved the Yucca Valley Senior Center Improvements Project, Phase 2. The grand opening for Essig Park will take place the third week of November.

There are currently 90 short-term rental applications available.
