Yvonne Buchanan’s multimedia installation is at BoxoProjects from May to June

BoxoProjects features Yvonne Buchanan, a Morongo Basin resident. Buchanan’s multimedia installation, “Paraphrase,” incorporates drawing, sculpture, and four-channel video.

“Paraphrase,” a multimedia installation, examines the dynamics of gender identity, race, and the general categorization of human beings in contemporary society through fragments of the iconic film Psycho. “Paraphrase,” consisting of original video and wall works, examines expectations of women and people of Color and includes coping strategies for trauma.

The installation will run from May to June. Opening day is Saturday, May 13, from 1 to 4 pm. The Artist Talk is at 2 pm. Additional programming will include a workshop, an updated artist talk and screening of new work at the exhibition’s closing.

BoxoPROJECTS is located at 62732 Sullivan Road, in Joshua Tree.

Hilary Sloane
After a long successful career as a Photostylist and producer in New York and Los Angeles, Hilary Sloane moved to the Morongo Basin and began a new career as a journalist and documentary photographer, getting a journalism certification from Michigan State. Hilary is a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) and has documented the work of local and International non-profits. She has a podcast on Sound Cloud and is looking forward to adding more. Her favorite pastime is watching the wildlife around her home, traveling, and meeting new people.
