YVHS Principal Justin Monical discusses CMC “Dual Enrollment Program”

On last Friday’s Up-Close Show with Gary Daigneault, Yucca Valley High School Principal Justin Monical spoke with Daigneault about various positive changes, including partnerships with Copper Mountain College.

When Daigneault mentioned Yucca Valley High School’s closer relationship with Copper Mountain College with “career acceleration” for students, Monical mentioned exceptionally large growth in the Dual Enrollment Program, allowing students to receive high school credits for high school level classes that are also college level classes.

Monical said, “Students are working on a high school diploma while building a college transcript. The beautiful part of this partnership with Copper Mountain is not only do our own teachers have the ability to teach those courses when they meet certain standard of certification and training, but when we don’t have someone who meets that standard, we are able to meet with Copper Mountain and remote in some of their professors to help teach those courses as well. So we’ve been able to add a very robust offering of courses through the last several school years—and this year, even more—so our students are getting closer and closer to graduating high school not only with their diploma but also getting awfully close to having an AA by the time they finish their high school career. We also work with Copper Mountain with the Rise Program, which is getting kids into the CMC process early—so they get in, get priority registration, get their classes set up—long before they even graduate high school.”
