Yucca Valley’s Essig Park slated for improvements, public’s input wanted on dog park

Essig Park, the public park in Yucca Valley located near Black Rock is on the mind of the Town’s Staff, who is requesting input from residents on what would improve the park.

Essig Park is a lovely little refuge for residents and dogs at 8300 Warren Vista Ave. It has picnic tables, barbecue grills, playgrounds for older and younger children, and fenced-in areas for dogs. With the funding from Measure K, the Town is looking to upgrade the park. Town staff has sent out a questionnaire which you can access from the website www.yucca-valley.org or talk to the team from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the park.

Mark Rosati, a resident and retired dog trainer walking a 10-month-old Doberman named Onyx, said he thinks the park is beautiful and well-maintained. However, he said he would like to see the grass replaced and sprinkler systems added, as well as more sun cover for the humans. Other suggestions have been more benches, water fountains, and Play and Agility Equipment for the canine residents.

The public can access the survey on the Town’s website at www.yucca-valley.org under the Spotlight feature or by using the Essig Park and Dog Park Improvement Survey link or QR code. In addition, signage posted at Essig Park encourages participation in the survey and provides a QR code so parkgoers can easily share their ideas. Recreation staff also spend time at the park to gather feedback and information from park patrons. The survey will remain open through December 13, 2022.
