Yucca Valley Town Council rejects the Aquatics and Recreation Center bid

Town Council met last night for a brief session to discuss the Aquatics Center bid and accept the Youth Commission appointees.

At last night’s meeting, the Town Council acknowledged October as Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. Susanna Barnett, Executive Director of Unity Home, accepted the designation.

The Council appointed the Youth Commission applicants for 2023-24 and then received the Annual Financial Report for the 2023 fiscal year from Mr. Rogers of Rogers, Anderson, Melody & Scott. LLP. The Town of Yucca Valley has been recognized for the health of its financial condition for the last 18 consecutive years.

In other business, the Yucca Valley Aquatic and Recreation Center Project bid came in ten million over the estimated cost. The Council discussed options like changing the design or accepting the bid and seeking additional funding. The Council voted to reject the bid and advertise to rebid.

For future items, Councilman Merl Abel asked the Staff to discuss yard sales on the street. Town Manager Curtis Yakimow said this subject is already under discussion with the Planning Commission.

The meeting ended early.
