Yucca Valley Small Business Association launches “cash mob” to encourage locals to shop small

The Yucca Valley Small Business Association is a new organization unifying new and legacy businesses in the hi-desert town. Recently formed by owners of Tiny Pony and All Roads, the SBA includes more than 30 local businesses, and they’ve launched their first initiative just in time for holiday shopping.

Here’s Yucca Valley SBA co-founder and one of the owners of Tiny Pony, Alison Paris, to explain.

Alison: “Janelle and I started the Yucca Valley Small Business Association to bring together some of the local small businesses in the area. There’s lots of old businesses and new ones that have opened up recently, and we thought it would be a good idea for everyone to be on the same page and help each other out. Collaboration over competition.”

As a way to promote their businesses, the Yucca Valley SBA is kicking off a “Cash Mob” program to encourage shoppers to keep their dollars within the community.

Alison Paris of the Tiny Pony Tavern and Janelle Pietrzak of All Roads started the Yucca Valley Small Business Association to encourage “collaboration over competition.”

All Roads owner Janelle Pietrzak explained the premise of the local Cash Mob.

Janelle: “A cash mob, I had never heard of this, I learned about it from the Twentynine Palms Small Business Group. You go to the participating businesses in a certain time period. Spend money there, and then you get a chance to win a gift basket of all gifts donated from all the participating businesses.

Ours starts December 5 and it’s going to run through December 10, and the goal is to get people to come shop their local businesses. We’re going to have multiple prize baskets because we have 18 businesses in Yucca Valley participating, and that’s a lot of prizes. We’ve got gift certificates, care packages, I’m pretty excited about it!”

And if you’re a small business based in Yucca Valley eager to get involved, the SBA wants to hear from you.

Alison: “We started regular meetings a few months ago, and we hope more people get involved. You can email us at [email protected]
