Yucca Valley seeking artists to dress-up dull utility boxes with colorful art

If you’ve seen the beautifully decorated utility boxes around Yucca Valley, you may not know that they were made by local artists. The Town is seeking new artists for additional utility boxes around town.

The Town of Yucca Valley has announced that they are seeking six new Yucca Valley-based artists to create designs and artwork for six new wraps to adorn six additional utility boxes in visible locations through the town. As part of last year’s program, boxes were adorned with artist-created wraps, providing unique visuals, popping colors, and engaging concepts to the otherwise dull gray equipment.

One artist who participated in last year’s program, Julie Peasley, discussed her wrap on the Z107.7 Morning Show with Cody and me.

“My piece is over by Panda Express and in the Walmart parking lot. And you can see it from Twentynine Palms Highway. It’s called ‘Day Stars, Night Suns.’  I made some Joshua trees out of these polyhedron objects since they’re very spiky. I thought they kind of looked geometric. It’s very colorful.”
