Yucca Valley Planning Commission reviews developments, including potential Dutch Bros. location

The Yucca Valley Planning Commission meeting began with a review of the Land Development Update. The report is typically given at the end of each meeting and details any notable changes to private land developments and capital project activity within the Town.

Dutch Bros has submitted a Conditional Use Permit for a drive-through and a 980-square-foot structure between Big 5 Sporting Goods and Walgreens. The developer for the Joshua Springs gymnasium project has indicated they will resubmit applications soon. The Domino’s Pizza / Jersey Mike’s project has broken ground, and Starbucks West is expected to break ground in the near future. Walmart submitted a Conditional Use Permit for the fueling station and convenience store on their site, and Circle K plans to submit a CUP in early March for a development on the corner of Twentynine Palms Highway and Avalon Avenue.

The meeting ended with an update on implementing the Western Joshua Tree Conservation Act. Deputy Town Manager Shane Stueckle noted that the Hi-Desert Water District received its first fee estimate, with mitigation fees exceeding $1 million for Joshua Trees in the 50-foot buffer area between Camino Del Cielo and Pinon Drive. Town Staff intends to continue outreach efforts at the state and federal levels regarding potential legislative changes on the matter.
