Yucca Valley Planning Commission reviewed land use permits and Capital Project updates

At last night’s meeting, the Planning Commission reviewed and approved a permit for Exterior Color Change at 55684 Twentynine Palms Highway. Chair Clint Stoker recused himself because it was his company doing the work. A temporary use permit was reviewed for Valley Pipeline. The Commission was considering a ninety-day usage.

Brian Jenson, the owner of Valley Pipeline, requested a full-year temporary use permit to have time for the required environmental studies. Staff, who was online for the meeting, suggested this item be postponed until Staff can be present. The Onaga Trail project is 96% finished, but dealing with an access issue with the Boys and Girls Club.

The first phase of the Old Town Parking project includes a paved parking area and striping. The second phase includes restrooms, a monument sign, seating, and a shade structure. The town is applying for a grant for the Highway 62 Landscape beautification project. Plans for the renovation of Essig Park include new grass and irrigation system and the installation of a concrete walkway. This project is funded by measure Y. Town staff is looking to complete the crack, seal, and slurry seal project by the end of May.

Town staff is also working on the Senior Center modernization, which includes accessible restrooms and building renovations. The town is applying for a grant to replace the grass at Little League Park with synthetic grass.

The Yucca Valley Aquatic Center needs County approval, which is in the discussion stages. During the Land Development report, Staff said Star Café is working through its building permit process, and Quick Quack Car Wash has broken ground. Architects for Starbucks West will turn in plans in a week or two. Hi-Desert Times will resubmit tomorrow. Former Travel Lodge renovations have gone through several stages but are still on hold.

Lastly, employment applications for Planning Commissioner and the Revenue Oversight Measure Commissioner will be accepted until 5 p.m. today.
