YUCCA VALLEY PLANNING COMMISSION REJECTS WALMART EXTERIOR CHANGES, APPROVES JOSHUA TREE TRANSPLANTS

The Yucca Valley Planning Commission asked for revisions to proposed exterior changes to the Walmart building and approved several Western Joshua Tree removals and transplants at last night’s regularly scheduled meeting. For a closer look, we go to reporter Jef Harmatz…

At the public hearing on proposed changes to Walmart’s exterior, the commission felt that the color scheme was too monochromatic, and that not enough consideration had been given to the left and rear portions of the store, which are visible throughout the neighborhood. The commission asked the applicants to revise the color scheme before approval could be given to the overall plan, which also includes  the installation of new, smaller signs on the building’s facade. The commission also approved the removal, trimming, transplanting, and encroachment requests for a total of 16 Western Joshua trees and the removal of 10 Mojave Yuccas from properties throughout Yucca Valley. The commission pushed a vote on a request to transplant 2 Western Joshua Trees, remove 2 Mojave Yuccas and one California Juniper at the 58000 block of Piedmont Drive because of a lack of clarity on the application’s map. The commission also moved to push a vote on numerous exceptions to town property requirements in the 6700 block of Lindbergh Lane until the Caltrans Division of Aeronautics can review the request.
