Yucca Valley Planning Commission receives development updates, continues discussion on sidewalk vending to November

Shane Stueckle presents the Land Develoment Update to the Commission

The Yucca Valley Planning Commission met in a regular session on Tuesday evening. Here is reporter Adeline J. Wells with more from the brief meeting.

The Yucca Valley Planning Commission meeting began with the monthly review of new permits for single-family residential homes, accessory dwelling units, and multi-family properties. Since July 1, the town has issued three permits for single-family properties and has not issued any permits for ADUs.

Deputy Town Manager Shane Stueckle then provided the Commission with the Land Development Update. Starbucks West has communicated its plans to pull building permits within the next 30 to 60 days. The CEQA document for the Community Center Master Plan will be circulated next week and is expected to come before the Planning Commission in October; this project includes the construction of pickleball courts, restrooms, an expanded parking lot, and the resurfacing of the basketball courts. The Town received an application for a small recycling center to be built at the Stater Bros. East property, and development of the Sun Mesa Mini Storage facility at the intersection of Buena Vista Dr. and Highway 247 is also moving forward.

Lastly, the Commission held a public hearing concerning proposed regulations on street and sidewalk vending. At their meeting held on August 27, the Commission raised questions regarding the total percentage of building frontage that should be subject to displays. Town Staff requested more time to conduct additional research on the matter; the item will be continued to the Planning Commission meeting scheduled for November 12.
