The Yucca Valley Planning Commission reviewed Commercial Design Guidelines for outdoor sidewalk displays.
Town Staff presented the Yucca Valley Planning Commission with sample guidelines for sidewalk and outdoor displays commonly found at secondhand stores throughout town. This is the fourth time the Commission has considered potential regulations for such displays, which were previously discussed at a meeting in November and two in May. Town Staff drafted Commercial Design Guidelines based on feedback from those meetings, which included a maximum size of five by six feet, that displays should be ADA accessible and only remain outside during business hours. The issue was raised that many gas stations or grocery stores have outdoor displays for convenience items, such as propane, water, or firewood, that would then be subject to new rules. The fact that these displays are permanent, rather than to be removed each night was determined as a potential difference for regulation. This discussion is one of several aimed to improve the appearance of Highway 62.
Public Works Director Alex Qishta presented the Planning Commission with the Capital Improvement Program. This five-year plan encompasses infrastructure developments to the town’s streets and highways, parks and recreation department, and public facilities made possible due to various County, State, and Federal funds. One notable update was that the Aquatics and Recreation Center contractors expect to be ready to begin construction earlier than the original September start date. The Commission moved to adopt the program for fiscal years 2024/2025 through 2029/2030.
Lastly, the Planning Commission received the Land Development Update. Town Staff anticipates that the new Domino’s Pizza and Jersey Mike’s developers will pick up their permits today to begin construction.
