The Yucca Valley Planning Commission meeting began with a Site Plan Review for a .24-acre property at 7344 Wamego Trail. The Old Town building was originally developed as a single-family residence, currently operates as an office space, and is designated for Old Town Industrial/Commercial use under the Town’s General Plan. The applicant requests to change its use to a retail and collective space with the sale of gifts, baked goods, and a coffee bar.
The design plans for the project include concrete blocks, which are generally discouraged as part of the Town’s Commercial Design Guidelines. However, the Planning Commission agreed that the proposed block design is arranged tastefully and not a significant part of the architecture.
The Commission voted to approve the Site Plan Review and spoke favorably about the project, as noted by Commissioner Henderson.
“It’s exciting to see what’s going on in Old Town. This is going to be another great addition to it.”
Town Staff then presented the Land Development Update. Nice Dream Ices continues to progress with interior construction, and Star Cafe has indicated they will begin their project soon. The Domino’s Pizza and Jersey Mike’s Subs developers pulled building permits and intend to start construction within the next few weeks.
As the next regularly scheduled meeting is canceled due to a lack of quorum, the Yucca Valley Planning Commission will meet on January 14, 2025.
