Yucca Valley Planning Commission appoints new Chair for the next year

The Yucca Valley Planning Commission meeting began with the annual Chair transition. Former Vice Chair Alejandro Vasconcelos was appointed to be Chair for the next year, with Commissioner Mathew Thomas serving as the new Vice Chair. Former Chair Gerard Noonan stepped down from his role; Chair Vasconcelos thanked him for his service and looked ahead at the year to come.

The Commission then considered an Exterior Color Change application for a commercial building at 56945 Twentynine Palms Highway, occupied by Taqueria El Comandante. The building is currently painted grey and black; the applicant requests to change the main exterior color to orange, with roof trim and decorative shutters to be painted red.

The rendering provided by the applicant only features one side of the building without any signage or landscaping, and neither the red nor orange hues are in the adopted color palette. After deliberation, the Commission moved to continue the item to the next meeting, requesting that the applicant provide additional renderings that include multiple perspectives with signage, landscaping, and color options in the approved color palette.

Lastly, the Commission received the Land Development Update. Town Staff is conducting a plan check for a Wingstop to go near Stater Bros. East; they are evaluating whether the project requires any land use permits. The Vertical Bridge Monopine Project has indicated they would like to hold community outreach meetings next week.
