The pedestrian improvement projects on Onaga Trl and Little League Drive in Yucca Valley have been completed – with new sidewalks, ramps, gutters and other improvements added to both of the heavily-trafficked streets.
The improvements can be seen on Onaga Trail starting just west of Yucca Valley High School – with even more dramatic changes on Little League Drive. Both projects have fresh sidewalks, signage and striping along with ADA-compliant ramps for safer crossings – however Little League Drive now terminates in a mid-block cul-de-sac near the Boys and Girls Club Entrance and right across from Brehm park – creating safer street crossings between the north and south sides of the recreation complex.
The project officially kicked off on December 16th of last year. We have pictures of the completed projects at this story on our website.

Speaking of pedestrians – May is bicycle safety month. As the weather continues to warm up, be aware that there will be more cyclists on the roads – especially in unincorporated areas of the high desert like Joshua Tree and Wonder Valley. Cyclists on most roads in the hidesert don’t have much a shoulder to ride on, and sand and other debris on the road can make rides unpredictable. Give pedestrians as much space as safely possible when sharing the road – whether its a bicycle, motorcycle, skateboard or runner.
If you are out enjoying the desert on two wheels – always wear a helmet and be aware of your surroundings when sharing the road with automobiles.
The City of 29 Palms does have some roads with designated separate bike paths – Nearly 3 years ago they paved a path on Baseline Road from Utah Trail to Bedouin.
