San Bernardino County Fire crews were out Tuesday night (February 28) extinguishing a fire at an unoccupied apartment complex fire near Yucca Trail and Joshua Lane in Yucca Valley.

Responding to 911 calls, crews from Fire Station 41 arrived at around 10:15 p.m. to find heavy flames showing through the top of an unoccupied single story 10 unit apartment building. Strong winds pushed the fire through multiple units, but firefighters used multiple hoses and aggressive tactics to suppress the fire in 35 minutes.

There were no injuries reported and four of the ten units were damaged, with no additional structures involved in the fire.

Crews stayed on the scene for several hours working on overhaul operations, and found evidence of squatters living in the vacant building. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

A report from the Sheriff’s Morongo Basin Station indicated that the fire had been started by a transient, and that fire crews have responded to this location two times previously.
