A chamber of commerce is an organization commonly found in many municipalities. For Morongo Basin residents, it might be known as the organization that puts on several community events, the largest being the annual Grubstake Days celebration. On a recent Up Close Show on May 10th, host Gary Daigneault sat down with Wanda Stadum, Tonya Chiu, and Shaka Gray of the Chamber of Commerce in Yucca Valley. Chiu, the Chairman of the Board, answered the question on the minds of many: what exactly is the Chamber of Commerce?
“The Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce is the largest referral service in the Morongo Basin. We go out in the community and help people apply for our membership; we then advertise for our members and give them spotlights on our websites and at our functions. It is a great way to network for small businesses or nonprofits. We have a great Board that really puts their heart and soul into our community.”
Director Shaka Gray added to her comments on how the Chamber helps businesses succeed.
“We do a lot of luncheons, such as our Leads Luncheon, that give businesses opportunities. These not only bring clientele into the shop, but are also an outlet for networking, passing out business cards, and getting to know what kind of services are available for locals.”
