Vehicle rollover in Joshua Tree leaves driver dead and passenger with major injuries

A vehicle rollover in Joshua Tree yesterday resulted in the driver being ejected and killed, and left the passenger with major injuries. According to the California Highway Patrol, On Wednesday at around 4:20PM a 2011 Lexus was traveling northbound on Border Avenue at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle, steering to the right and off the road where it rolled multiple times.

The 44-year old male driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the crash where he was pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger – 34 year old Sierra Scott – was transported to the Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

The driver’s identity has not been released by the CHP. The crash is still under investigation. It is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor.

The Morongo Basin CHP officers have investigated four crashes in less than two months that have resulted in death for occupants not wearing seatbelts and they would like to remind everyone to wear their seatbelt and ensure everyone inside of their vehicle wears a seatbelt or is in a child safety seat every trip. It is the law, and it saves lives.
