Twentynine Palms Water District Board of Directors Receives LAFCO Service Review at Today’s Meeting

The county agency responsible for the formation and oversight of local governments has provided their analysis of Twentynine Palms’ government agencies, and the review makes a strong case for consolidating the town’s City Council, Water District, and Cemetery District. The Local Agency Formation Commission, known as LAFCO, has submitted the final draft of their review of Twentynine Palms agencies to the agencies themselves.

Today, the Twentynine Palms Water District will receive and file LAFCO’s service review, which is currently available to the public on the water district’s website, 29palmswater.com. LAFCO’s review makes no recommendations, but suggests that there is a strong to solid case for consolidating the governing bodies in Twentynine Palms, specifically suggesting that, as the wastewater treatment and sewer programs move forward at the city level, it would increase efficiency for one body to oversee the entirety of the area’s water infrastructure. The report says that, while the three agencies are currently being run well, the consolodation of the agencies would also likely lead to greater community engagement.

The Twentynine Palms Water District Board of Directors will receive, file, and hear public comment on LAFCO’s service review at their regular meeting this afternoon. The meeting begins at 4 p.m. and will be held at 72401 Hatch Road in Twentynine Palms. The meeting can be viewed online at their website, 29palmswater.com
