Heading into 2024 with a new mayor, District 1 Councilmember Steven Bilderain, the council will begin tonight’s meeting with a presentation by San Bernardino County Fire Chief Daniel Munsey, on FP-5, or rather Fire Protection District Service Zone 5, which includes Twentynine Palms.
Of note on the Consent Calendar (grouped items not requiring council discussion) is the purchase of a Polaris RZR Pro R 4 side-by-side off-highway vehicle for law enforcement services, specifically for off-road enforcement and other public events.
The council will then discuss and likely appoint illustrator/graphic designer, Sara M. Lyons, to the Public Arts Advisory Committee (PAAC). Lyons is co-owner of the downtown craft beverage and gift shop, Scorpion Lollipop, and would replace choreographer Ryan Heffington.
Next, the council will consider creating a Twentynine Palms Youth Council, an advisory body of students (middle and high schoolers) that would engage with the community and civic leaders on youth-related issues and events.
Finally, the council will discuss various regional organizational assignments for its’ members, such as the Morongo Basin Transit Authority (MBTA) and the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District (MDAQMD).
