Twentynine Palms City Council meets tonight to discuss wastewater, next City Manager

The Twentynine Palms City Council will gather this evening to discuss wastewater plans, equity and social justice, and recruiting a new city manager.

Tonight, the Twentynine Palms City Council meeting will begin with a grateful sendoff to outgoing City Manager Frank Luckino. Next, there will be a public hearing around adding an Equity and Social Justice Element to the city’s General Plan.

To comply with federal and state law, the council will host another public hearing to consider introducing an ordinance that would allow connection of the proposed large-scale wastewater project within the vicinity of the smaller, but already operational, wastewater treatment system downtown.

The council will then continue discussion on the larger Wastewater Project now that the city has received $50M from the California State Water Board, part of the $350M slated for “small, disadvantaged communities” looking to grow. To collect the funds, the city must submit a Project Engineering Report and a Draft Mandatory Use Ordinance that would require homeowners to connect to the sewer system.

Finally, the council will discuss bids from three executive recruiting firms to conduct a candidate search for the open city manager position, vacated by Luckino on October 26.

The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road. The event can be livestreamed or viewed on-demand via the city’s website, 29palms.org.
