Twentynine Palms City Council hosts annual ‘State of the City’ address and selects new mayor tonight

Tonight’s Twentynine Palms City Council meeting will be the final meeting of the year, one in which winners of the recent election will be sworn in, and new mayor and mayor pro tem are selected.

The agenda also features a check presentation to the Twentynine Palms High School Volleyball Team for participating in the Cash for Trash and Recycling Program. There will be the annual presentation of Mayor’s Employee of the Year and Mayor’s Recognition Award followed by the State of the City Address by Mayor Steven Bilderain. Council will honor Mayor Pro Tem Joel Klink who is retiring from the council after 20 years.

Newly elected councilmember April Ramirez, representing District 2, will be sworn in alongside returning councilmember Steven Bilderain, representing District 1. There will be a short recess, followed by an open discussion of the city’s next mayor and mayor pro-tem. There is no legally binding requirement of these positions other than the issue must be addressed at the very meeting which also officially declares the election results which will be done in the Consent Calendar.

The meeting takes place on Tuesday, December 10, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road. It can be livestreamed or viewed on-demand via the city’s website, www.29palms.org.
