Twentynine Palms City Council Agenda – VHR, Western Joshua Trees, pay raises

Tonight, the Twentynine Palms City Council will host four public hearings and discuss topics relating to city employee compensation and public art.

The first public hearing pertains to development code amendments for Nonconforming Buildings and Uses. The second hearing will address changes to the Vacation Home Rental (VHR) regulations recommended by the city’s planning commission. Those changes include a reduction in insurance requirements, conditions of approval, and frequency of the Good Neighbor class for VHR owners.

The next hearing concerns a development code amendment to establish regulations for the removal, relocation or trimming of a Western Joshua Tree, meaning property owners will likely need to obtain a ‘take’ permit from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The final hearing focuses on development code amendments to the Downtown Specific Plan land use tables to make the language consistent with the Development Code, which needs to be updated per the recent changes to state housing law. The council will then discuss increases to the city clerk’s compensation, specifically, a 5% longevity increase, and an additional 5% to temporarily support the interim city manager.

Finally, the council will discuss the appointment of Paul Razo to the Public Arts Advisory Committee.

The meeting takes place on Tuesday, November 14, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road. It can be livestreamed or viewed on-demand via the city’s website, www.29palms.org
