Twentynine Palms Bark Park gifted shade trees by Rotary Club

With an eye toward a shady future, the Twentynine Palms Rotary Club joined forces with the city to plant trees at the Twentynine Palms Bark Park.

Our desert sun can be cruel and relentless, especially to our canine pals. With this concern, the Twentynine Palm Rotary Club partnered with the city to plant four fast-growing shade trees within the Twentynine Palms Bark Park.

When Twentynine Palms Animal Control Supervisor Rick Boyd noted a lack of shade, he approached Rotary President Daniel Mintz with his concerns. Rotary responded by purchasing four large, low-water use, heat-tolerant trees to plant at the park.

On January 31, city workers planted the new inhabitants – two Mesquites (growth rate: 13-25 inches per year), a Palo Verde (2-3 feet per year) and a Desert Willow (2-3 feet per year) – in a brief ceremony that also included Rotarians, city councilmembers, and city staff.

With allotted space for both large (30+ lbs.) and small dogs, the park is located at Knott’s Sky Park, 6897 El Sol at Foothill Drive. The parks are open every day from dawn to dusk.

Not only will the trees eventually provide shade but also an ideal spot for pups to pick up their pee-mail.
