TIME SPENT IN SILENCE CAN BRING NUMEROUS HEALTH BENEFITS

Though an absence of sound may suggest emptiness, you may discover that dialing down the noise offers surprising fullness for body, mind, and spirit.

Kevin Wong, program Director for the Desert Institute, says that silence is an advantage of living in the desert. The quail, ravens, and mourning doves provide background ambiance but silencing the everyday chatter and external noises may help your health in several ways. Finding quiet moments may lower blood pressure, improve concentration and focus, calm racing thoughts, stimulate brain growth, reduce cortisol, stimulate creativity, improve insomnia, and encourage mindfulness. In addition, Wong suggests sitting still and appreciating the beauty of nature. Of course, it helps that we live in a beautiful place with the National Park so close.
