Third Annual Morongo Valley Dog Mayor Election underway with surprise candidate

Morongo Valley’s Dog Mayor Election is upon us and taking place this Saturday at Morongo Valley’s Halloween Extravaganza.

When years prior have had up to ten Morongo Valley canines begging for the title of mayor, 2024 has proved to be a very different election cycle. While the current two-term incumbent Roxy is running once again, many past candidates who may have tried running against her feel comfortable with her status quo as the mayor for a 3rd year and have opted out for 2024.

Roxy rose to glory from her humble origins as a shelter dog. Over the last 3 years, she has faithfully served her community as Morongo Valley’s town greeter, tee ball mascot, and photo-op extraordinaire. Everyday Roxy greets Morongo locals and visitors with her gentle demeanor at the All-American Fuel gas station, where her sweet and friendly personality shines through in her daily interactions.

The Candidates

However, Roxy will have one other dog running against her this year— Meet Yogi, the Great Pyrenees. With a heart full of love, an endless supply of hugs, and a contagious happiness, Yogi is ready to lead with loyalty and charm. But don’t be fooled by his fluffy appearance—Yogi is a fearless protector with a bark that can’t be ignored. He fearlessly stands up against tarantula hawks and pesky garden-invading bunnies. For those wanting change to our current administration, voters will seek Yogi for a leader with heart, fluff, and just the right amount of woof.

But wait—now there is a new challenger to Roxy, and when we reported Yogi as being the one other dog running against her, we weren’t wrong. Meet Ziggy, the unstoppable chicken pecking his way to the top as the Morongo Valley Mayor. You can find him holding court at the Hippie Chicken, winning hearts with his larger-than-life personality.

But will Ziggy’s platform go beyond mere identity politics for Morongo Valley’s Dog Mayor Election? Will Morongo residents see Yogi as the change we need, or will Roxy be the more comfortable choice on the strength of her high-profile familiarity of the last few years?

Find out this Saturday at the Morongo Valley Halloween Extravaganza at 5PM in Covington Park.

All votes must be in by 4:30PM.
