Theatre 29 to present “Musings of a Black Woman in a Brown Desert” on 10/28

A unique and personal look at an artistic and spiritual journey will be a special presentation at Theatre 29 on October 28 and 29th.

This one person play follows author and performer Miri Hunter as she moves from her Los Angeles loft and settles into life in the Mojave Desert. Is it the fulfillment of a promise to herself to find a place where she can just be or is it a continuation of the life she keeps trying to leave behind?

Hunter says “Musings of a Black Woman in a Brown Desert” is part fiction and part memoir. It tells the story of her journey to freedom, and the importance of understanding personal freedom and its connection to societal healing. She says, “Once we are free as individuals, then and only then, can we heal the schisms that divide us as a society.” Miri’s work is infused with a desire to reach out to people, encouraging them to reflect, understand and grow in awareness of who they are.

“Musings” premiered on September 9, 2023, at the Compound Yucca Valley and was funded in part by a grant from Arts Connection, San Bernardino County.

The form is based on the first five books of the Bible, flowing seamlessly from one event into another, depicting five different aspects of living in the desert as a woman of color.

“Musings of a Black Woman in a Brown Desert” will play two performances, 7:00pm Saturday, October 28 and a 2:30 PM matinee Sunday, October 29th.

Tickets are $15.00 for Regular Admission, $12.50 for Seniors and Military at $10.00 for children under 12 and Students with ID. They are available online at www.theare29.org or by calling the Box Office at 760-361-4151.
