Today starting at 8AM the Way Station in Joshua Tree is giving away Thanksgiving baskets to those in need.
Yvonne Gates is the director of the way station – a food pantry and soup kitchen right here in Joshua Tree that’s been helping feed folks here in the Morongo Basin for 38 years:
Yvonne Gates: “Each guest will receive celery, onions, yams and potatoes. All of that product is fresh… they will have their choice of a ham or turkey. To round out the food box, there will be stuffing, mashed potatoes… all the items you see here will be part of the distribution on Tuesday.”
Basin Transit teamed up with the Way Station to gather the food last Friday at a “Fill the Bus” event in Yucca Valley. They not only filled a Basin Transit bus full of non-perishables and fixings, but they also collected 59 turkey, 18 hams, and $818 in cash donations – including $500 from Yucca Auto Body. Everything was given to the Way Station for distribution today and throughout the holidays.
The Way Station is located in Joshua Tree just north of Hwy 62 – on 61722 Commercial St right between Sunset Road and Veterans Way. The baskets will be available starting this morning at 8AM.
