Tentative agreement up for MTA vote discussed at last night’s MUSD meeting

The Morongo Unified School District Board of Trustees held their regular 6PM meeting last night (November 14th) at Joshua Tree Elementary.

The meeting began with a visit from the California Cadet Corp, an applied leadership program for Reserve military cadets. Led by Captain Sommers, the Cadets led the Pledge of Allegiance. Next, 29 Palms principal Michael Ruggiero recognized student Kieu Huynh, followed by Yucca Valley High principal Justin Monical’s recognition of Joseph Matzel, Miles Harper, and Cassidy Albrecht.

After many bargaining sessions, MTA President Amber Hanson reported a tentative agreement to present to membership for a vote. Voting for this tentative agreement will open on Monday, November 27th and close on Wednesday, December 6th.

Celeste Wahlberg presented the MUSD SBAC Data Report, showing MUSD slightly exceeding standards by .14% in comparison to San Bernardino County and California State averages which fell behind.

Public comment consisted of a positive field report and introduction from President of San Bernardino Board of Education Andrea DeLeon. A plea for higher trained security and police presence came from Jennifer Beasley, who suffered multiple injuries followed by physical therapy after she and another teacher broke up a fight between four female students. Shannon Greenwood and Alejandra Augusta of Landers Elementary demanded answers why there is currently no onsite principal at their school, stating they feel “left in the dark and in need of guidance” after inexplicable cancellations of the month’s PTO meetings.

Two SchoolWorks Inc. projects; the Demographics, Enrollment Projections and Boundary Study and the District Facilities Master Plan and Needs Assessment Project were passed 4/0, along with the rest of the meeting’s action items.
