Just one hour prior to the Twentynine Palms City Council tonight, a group of concerned citizens will be hosting a ‘Stop The Sewer’ rally adjacent to City Hall. Reporter Heather Clisby rejoins us with the details

Asking one plaintive question, “Are you in the Stink Zone?”, a group of concerned Twentynine Palms citizens will be hosting a protest rally tonight at 5:00 p.m. at Veterans Park, the grassy, shady area next to City Hall. At issue is the proposed location of a sewage treatment plant just east of the Twentynine Palms Post Office, off of Desert Knoll Avenue and Buena Vista Drive.

According to the groups’ website, StopTheSewer.org, and a related flyer, the citizens are pushing back against the council’s location decision and voicing their concerns about possible drops in property values. The flyer includes a graphic with a one-mile radius that may be affected by an odor emitting from the treatment plant.

Councilmember Octavious Scott, who represents the area, proposed a motion last month to have the council possibly study moving the plant to a different location.

The event will lead right into the Twentynine Palms City Council meeting which begins at 6:00 p.m. in the chambers next door, 6136 Adobe Road.
