Still behind on your taxes? County has helped process $22 million in refunds for free

The San Bernardino Transitional Assistance Department (TAD) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program successfully serviced 12,148 taxpayers for free.

The program contacts low- and middle-income taxpayers via telephone, and offers to connect residents with tax professionals at one of more than 40 locations, 37 of which are mobile.

The program is designed to help ensure access to tax preparation services, and help those who may not be able to afford tax assistance have the opportunity to apply for state and federal credits, ultimately lowering what they may owe or work to receive refunds they might not otherwise know about. County officials say that they helped process $22,334,905 in federal and state refunds and credits for San Bernardino County residents this tax season.

If you applied for an extended tax deadline for the 2023 tax year, you still have until October 15th to file. The Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County confirmed that they are still running the VITA program, and is also always looking for tax prep volunteers for the program.
