The Big Morongo Canyon Preserve’s Education Center will be open today from 9am to noon, with the gates to the preserve opening at 7am. The deep shade of the preserve keeps the temperatures lower than other parts of our desert, and the flora and fauna of the Big Morongo Canyon is truly unique to the area.
After exploring the trails, you can pop inside the education center (open from 9AM to 12 Noon) to peruse the preserve’s used books in the areas of natural sciences, bird identification and cultural history. There’s also books and activities for kids, with Ranger Kaeliegh there to explain why bugs are more common in the summer time.
