State of the Town Luncheon hosted by Mayor Schooler with guest speaker District Assemblyman Chad Mayes celebrates Yucca Valley

The room was bustling with Yucca Valley residents and dignitaries.

Mayor Jim Schooler, the 20th Mayor, reviewed the progress of Yucca Valley as it developed from an impoverished small desert town to a tourist destination through a cohesive effort between the town, Desert Regional Tourism Agency, and the Chamber of Commerce.

Mayor Schooler listed the achievements, including road and park maintenance, Animal Care, Land Use Planning, and fiscal management. Yucca Valley, the Mayor said, giving credit to tourism, Measure Y and Z, has accomplished significant advancements and came in the top 25% in the state for fiscal management.

Mayor Schooler is particularly proud of the design plans for Old Town, which include the newly paved highway and sidewalk project funded through Prop 68 and designs for Old Town parking areas, restrooms, and an event center.

In addition, he welcomed the Awe bar, the Sourdough Bakery, the JT National Park Association Visitors Center, the Black Bear Diner, and the renovation of the Travel Lodge into a first-class destination resort. Captain Robert Warrick of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department greeted the crowded room by saying the County Sheriff’s Department is here for you.

As the luncheon closed, Mayor Schooler presented a proclamation of recognition to Assemblyman Chad Mayes. Mayes, raised in yucca Valley, is a force behind the new Aquatics Center and gymnasium slotted to open in 2024 and the $12 million funding for a new fire station.
