****Updates showing statewide results for State Assembly District 34
We have the results of the primary elections for San Bernardino County. According to the latest reports from the County Registrar of Voters. The results are not final pending a full count of regular, provisional, and absentee votes. In the California primary system the top two vote getters for State and Congressional offices will be in a runoff in November.
Gavin Newsom will be facing Brian Dahle in the race for California Governor, Eleni Kounalakis will run against Angela Underwood for Lt. Governor, and Rob Bonta will face Eric Early in the race for California Attorney General. Incumbent Senator Alex Padilla will go up against challenger Mark Mueser for both the short term and long term seats.
Incumbent Congressman Jay Obernolte representing newly redistricted District 23 which includes the Morongo Basin, will face Democratic challenger Derek Marshall. For State Assembly District 34, With statewide results in, it is now a virtual deadheat with Republicans Thurston “Smitty” Smith and Tom Lackey at 29.9% and 29.8% respectively, Morongo Basin resident Democrat Rita Dean narrowly lost at 27.8%.
In San Bernardino County races, more than 50% wins outright, meaning Ted Alejandre beat Ken Larson for County Supervisor of Schools; Bob Dutton wins the race for County Assessor; Ensen Mason wins the race for County Auditor; Jason Anderson wins for County District Attorney; and Shannon Dicus wins for County Sheriff.
Measure Z, which repeals the controversial FP-5 Fire Tax, passed with 60% of the vote. The Measure is not expected to become law due to a judge ruling the measure invalid just after the ballots were printed.
The results are subject to change based on the registrar’s final vote count.
