Sports and athletic programs available for Twentynine Palms youth and adults

Are you keen to get your kiddos into youth sports in Twentynine Palms? What about participating in adult athletics yourself?

City Recreation Division Manager Kary Minatrea and Special Events Coordinator Scott Clinkscales were the guests on last week’s “Up Close” show with Gary Daigneault. They provided an overview of the City’s youth sports programs, and a recommendation for the adult sports leagues as well.

Minatrea says, “So we’ll start off we do offer a digital activity guide on our website, so you can peruse that and see what’s going on at any given time. The organized sports that we offer is flag football, soccer, volleyball and basketball.

They are all typically for ages 5 and older, though the basketball program goes by grade.

“In order to register, we’ll put out the information on our website, the newspaper and the radio station so people know we’re accepting registrations. We’ll put a QR code on the flyers we have in our facilities, so you can just take a picture with your phone.”

Daigneault expressed enthusiasm for the City’s adult programs, saying that when he moved to Twentynine Palms, he didn’t know anybody, and joined a softball team. He ended up playing for 25 years on the same team.
Minatrea added, “We typically offer men’s and co-ed softball leagues, twice a year. But we won’t be able to offer one this summer due to the installation of ballfield lights at Luckie Park.”
