Southern California Edison Senior Advisor Jeff Monford and Government Relations Manager Jennifer Cusack were the guests on Z107.7’s “Up-Close Show” on Friday (July 15). They spoke to Gary Daigneault about Edison’s response to illegal marijuana grows throughout the high desert, with Cusack saying
“If there is energy theft, then we will seek remedy for our rate payers. If somebody is stealing electricity, then that costs the rest of our rate payers, and it can be dangerous to our community, depending on how that energy is being stolen, so yes we pursue that. That’s something we will seek remedy, through law enforcement and through claims and financial claims against those property owners.”
When Cusack was asked how frequently the utility comes across electricity theft used for illegal grows, she said
“Like everybody’s experiencing, there has been an uptick, in recent years with those illegal grows, though some of those might not even be relying on our system to generate power.”
