A string of smash-and-grab burglaries has rocked the hi-desert, as six businesses on Highway 62 – from Morongo Valley to Twentynine Palms – had glass doors smashed and money taken by the same two suspects.
Sometime late Wednesday night (January 11) or early Thursday morning (January 12), 6 commercial businesses – 5 of which were restaurants – were the victims of burglaries. All of the smash-and-grabs all believed to have been committed by the same two suspects.
The Trading Post and the Morongo Café in Morongo Valley, Star Café and Thai & Lao Cuisine in Yucca Valley, and Mara’s and Thai Café in Twentynine Palms all had the glass in their business doors shattered.
The suspects then went into the businesses, taking cash and cash registers.
Damages at each business range from $1000 to $10,000 dollars, and amounts stolen from the business are not known.
Deputies with the Morongo Basin Station are investigating these burglaries as connected, and said that the suspects are two males who were wearing dark clothing.
A window that was broken Tuesday morning (January 10) at The Lobby, a vacation rental business on Highway 62 in Twentynine Palms is currently considered unrelated to the other burglaries.
The investigation is ongoing, and Deputies say they will release more information after security footage from all the of the businesses is reviewed.
