The Sheriff’s bomb squad was notified Tuesday morning (September 14) after the Sheriff’s department received notice of possible military explosives on a property in Landers. According to Sheriff’s reports, Deputies were called to the 57300 block of Camulos (cah-moo-los) Road in Landers just after 10 a.m. by a man reporting that he had spotted a missile, artillery shells, and military mortars on the property he was purchasing. The Sheriff’s bomb and arson unit responded to the scene where they discovered the military munitions and determined them to be live explosives. The unit removed and safely neutralized the explosives.
The Sheriff’s department reminds residents that fatalities and severe injuries have resulted from people being accidentally exposed to military munitions or from people deliberately removing military munitions for souvenirs or other use. If you suspect an item to be an explosive device, do not touch or move it. Retreat from the area and call 911 immediately.
