Second Saturday Art Crawl in Joshua Tree tonight (5/13)

The second Saturday Art Crawl returns to Joshua Tree tonight (May 13) , with most of the area’s galleries holding openings for new exhibits. Art snob Jef Harmatz is here to tell you about tonight’s high desert art openings. 

Art Queen is debuting a new solo show of work from Noel T. Hart, titled “Looking for Horizons.” Hart, a former architect, makes mixed media paitings of strange and alien landscapes that push design work beyond the rules of physics. The show opens tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

La Matadora will be debuting a new show with low desert artists Gutterdoodles AKA Denny Pascasio and Shadow Boes by Lizette Chavez. They will be hosting an art party from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. featuring DJ La Cosmica of Noche Libre Collective

Hey There will be debuting drawings, sculpture, and wood cutouts and signs from returning artist Martha Rich in a solo show titled “All Heck Breaks Loose.” The exhibit will be open tonight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Joshua Tree Art Gallery will be showing their exhibit, “Portraits of High Desert Icons” featuring Bobby Furst and more.

Pilates & Arts debuts a new show featuring mixed media work from Barbara Spiller titled “Walking on Sand.” Spiller will be conducting an informal art talk at 5 p.m. prior to the opening event which runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

All of these galleries are within walking distance so park at one and stroll to the rest of them.

Art Queen East Gallery is located at 61855 29 Palms Hwy, Joshua Tree 92252. The exhibit will be on view through May 28th on Saturdays and Sundays from 11-5pm

Jef Harmatz is the co-host of Z107.7’s “Morning Show with Cody and Jef” and Z107.7’s News Director. He has worked as a journalist, cartoonist, chef, and delivery driver. He is known nationally for his writing and comics in publications like TimeOut, Popula, Roadtrippers, Solrad and Spiralbound, and for his album covers for Third Eye Blind and Sir Sly. He is known locally for his pop-up barbecue restaurant Hot Dog Panic. He remains unknown in the field of beekeeping, because he is too afraid of being stung to try it. When not on the radio, he draws comics and self-publishes little books. He lives with his partner and his dog Sunday in Yucca Valley, where he cooks them both elaborate meals.
