“Scotty’s Castle” reopens for guided tours in Death Valley

Death Valley National Park and The Death Valley Natural History Association will be offering Scotty’s Castle Flood Recovery Tours for Winter of 2024/2025.

Visitors will have the opportunity to drive through the normally closed area with a Death Valley Ranger and tour the Spanish Mission style villa located in the Grapevine Mountains in Death Valley. It was built in 1922 and cost between $1.5 and 2.5 million dollars back in the day. It’s named after prospector, performer and con man Walter Scott – also known as “Death Valley Scotty.”  In 2015 floods devastated the area and a fire destroyed the garage and workshop that was being used as a visitor center.

Walking tours are scheduled for select Saturdays and Sundays starting December 7th, 2024 through March 23, 2025. Tickets are $35 per person, plus a processing fee.

Space is limited to 20 participants per tour and may be purchased up to 48 hours in advance.

Ticket sales will go toward conservation work at Scotty’s Castle.
