San Bernardino Sheriff announces Operation Dust Devil at MVCSD meeting

Last night (November 16th), the Morongo Valley Community Service District Board of Directors held their regular meeting at Covington Park’s multi-purpose room.

Last night’s MVCSD meeting began with San Bernardino Sheriff’s Sgt Anthony Scalise announcing the conclusion of Operation Hammerstrike, and the commencement of Operation Dust Devil, which will crack down on illegal and irresponsible off-roading in the area.

The Smith Marion and Company Final audit was approved, and Fire Captain Ryan McEachen discussed the progress on the reopening of Covington Park’s kitchen, to be recertified as a food-host facility, and if all goes well with the health board, McEachen estimates the ETA for reopening would be Jan/Feb of 2023.

With falling limbs continuing to be a safety and liability issue in Covington Park with recent high winds, board members suggested holding a special meeting once they receive a new quote from West Coast Arborists, and it’s suggested regular pre-emotive maintenance continue in the park moving forward.

With the issue of the park’s maintenance personnel’s use of his personal truck while regular maintenance truck is in disrepair, Fire Chief Brakebill vowed to research the purchase or lease of a new maintenance vehicle with aim to resolve by the board’s next special meeting.
