REPORT OF BAD SMELLS RESULTS IN A HORRIBLE DISCOVERY OF ANIMAL ABUSE

Neighbors asking Sheriff’s deputies to investigate bad smells from a Wonder Valley property resulted in the discovery of a scene right out of a horror movie. According to a Sheriff’s Press release, Friday (July 15) at about 11:00 a.m. deputies responded to a report of suspicious death odors coming from a property in the 86000 block of Amboy Road, they attempted contact with the homeowners, but no one was home.

While investigating the foul smell, deputies discovered six large, deceased dogs towards the side of the home in a large cage. Deputies obtained and served a search warrant and located additional animals inside the home. Lizards in cages were also deceased and appeared to be living in severe conditions. A live large pot belly pig and a small puppy, a python snake, and gecko lizards were located alive in the home. Wonder Valley has reached temperatures of over 110 degrees in the last few weeks. The animals did not have any shade, food, or water and appeared malnourished.

County Animal Control assisted and all animals were removed from the property, and an active investigation is ongoing at this time.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station at (760) 366-4175.
