After approving the moratorium on new vacation rentals, the Yucca Valley Town Council received a ten-year plan for widening Highway 62 and shorter-term plans for general town improvements.
At their regularly scheduled meeting, the council received a report from town staff about expanding Highway 62 from four lanes to six or eight lanes. The large-scale project is expected to begin in 2024 and conclude in 2031, cost $31 million dollars, and include drainage improvements.
The project is expected to utilize eminent domain and reduce the number of parking spaces at commercial properties along the highway. Also presented was an update on the use of town funds to improve parks, roads, and community facilities. Finally, the council heard a report from town staff about the success of the Halloween Spooktacular, which saw nearly a thousand people come together for Yucca Valley’s first large public event since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
