Squeaking in just ahead of the deadline, the developer of a proposed 14-unit, short-term rental trailer park along historic Mane Street in Pioneertown yesterday submitted a revised plan. The plan wasn’t submitted to the County Planning Commission or Land Use Services, but instead went to the Pioneertown Sustainable Tourism and Economic Development, the ad hoc community group that filed an appeal with the Board of Supervisors to stop the project altogether.
Pioneertown Sustainable Tourism and Economic Development from the beginning recognized the need for a professionally managed tourist accommodation close to Pioneertown’s historic Mane Street. What it objected to was the proposed project’s failure to conform to the county development code, community plan, and the California Environmental Quality Act.
The group filed an appeal with the board of supervisors and a hearing was set for December. At the same time, the group proposed what is called a tolling agreement where they would drop the appeal if the developer would rework the proposal bringing it into compliance. Local resident and architect Ben Loescher, who heads up the community group, received the revised plan by yesterday’s deadline. It too has flaws,” said Loescher.
Still, dialogue between the two groups is ongoing.
