Organics and green waste recycling starts January of 2024

As California Senate Bill 1383 requires, Yucca Valley will implement its Organics Recycling in January by providing organic waste collection services for residents and businesses. The goal is to reduce organic waste sent to landfills by 75% and recover surplus edible food to feed Californians facing food insecurity.

Separate all waste, yard trimmings, and other organic materials from regular trash. Organic waste includes food waste, green waste, landscape and pruning, and non-hazardous wood waste.

Green waste includes landscape, tree trimmings, branches, leaves, grass clippings, and weeds. Food waste is eggshells, meats, bones, fruits & vegetables, dairy, bread, coffee grounds & filters, tea bags, plate scrapings and food-soiled paper (i.e., napkins and paper towels).

Once residents and businesses receive their new green carts or bins in January, they are required to use them immediately. Green and food waste materials will no longer enter the trash container. Instead, put food waste into a plastic bag, secure it, and place it into the green cart on top of any loose (not bagged) green waste. Pickup for Green organic carts and bins will occur on regular trash days, along with the trash and recycling carts.
