Operation Hammer Strike, the San Bernardino County law enforcement effort to eradicate illegal marijuana grows, took down an additional two hundred forty-four illegal grows in weeks thirty-seven and thirty-eight. The team served forty-one search warrants at various locations in Lucerne Valley; Helendal; Pinon Hills; Alhambra; Hinkley; San Gabriel; Phelan; Apple Valley; Wonder Valley; Twentynine Palms; Newberry Springs; Rosemead; Monterey Park; Hesperia; and Irvine.
Personnel had received numerous complaints about large outdoor and indoor marijuana cultivations in these areas. Over the past two weeks, they located and arrested sixty suspects. Investigators seized 58,979 marijuana plants; 6,600 pounds of processed marijuana; seventeen guns; two grams of concentrated marijuana; and over $33,700.00 in cash. Teams eradicated two hundred and forty-four greenhouses and fifteen indoor locations. Deputies mitigated two electrical bypasses, one THC extraction lab, and recovered one stolen vehicle.
The suspects were cited or booked on charges of Cultivation of Cannabis over six plants; Possession for Sales of Marijuana; Illegal Water Discharge; Manufacturing a Controlled Substance; Utility Theft; and Conspiracy.
Property owners who are growing marijuana or are aware their tenants are growing marijuana on their properties in violation of the state law and local ordinances may also be subject to civil or criminal sanctions.
