Opening day for Yucca Valley Pool and summer aquatics program announced

The Town of Yucca Valley Recreation Department has announced the opening date for the community pool as June 19. This will also kick of the town’s Summer Aquatics Program, which is set to include swimming lessons, a junior lifeguarding program, and fun and fitness classes for all ages.

Registration for swimming classes opens today (June 5). To sign up, you can visit yucca-valley.org or got to the community center in person during normal business hours.

The pool is located at Yucca Valley High School on Onaga trail, and will be open weekdays starting June 19.

Children’s Learn-to-Swim Classes
Swim lessons are held in the mornings and afternoons at a cost of $56 per session. A session is eight lessons over the course of two weeks, Monday through Thursday. Six class levels are offered from parent/baby classes to advanced swim techniques. Swim lesson registration opens June 5th , 2023 at 9:00 a.m. and is available online at www.yucca-valley.org or in person at the Community Center, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Registration is also accepted at the pool office during summer program hours. Testing by Aquatics Staff will be available at the pool on Saturday, June 3rd from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and again on June 10th from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. to provide assistance in selecting the proper class level.

Junior Lifeguarding
This wonderful program provides participants ages 12 to 14 years old with skills and physical conditioning needed for entry to the American Red Cross Lifeguard Course. Sessions are 4 weeks, Monday through Thursday, for 1 hour and 45
minutes, during which the instructor will focus on communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills to prepare participants for the expectations of a workplace and the basic responsibilities of a professional lifeguard. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards breaststroke, 25 yards front crawl, and complete the Water Competency Sequence.

Water Fun and Fitness
All drop-in programs are priced per person, per visit, and cost $4 at the pool or $3 when purchased online. Drop-in programs include:

Recreational Fun Swim: Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Children under the age of 10 and non-swimmers must be accompanied by an adult swimmer.

Lap Swimming: Monday through Friday with a morning session at 8:00 a.m. Sessions are 50 minutes. Sign up early, attendance is limited to 18 swimmers.

Water Aerobics: Looking for a fun and different exercise routine? Try the popular water aerobics program from 7:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for all ages and fitness levels.

Exercise to music using water buoy dumbbells and water noodles.
