Open Poetry Reading Sunday (Oct 2) celebrates young poets and artists in Cholla Needles

An open poetry reading being held tomorrow at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center will be celebrating the 70th issue of the art and literary magazine Cholla Needles. The reading is from 4 to 6pm but you can come early as the café is open until 3. There’s lots of room so bring a friend and some poetry to read.

The latest issue of Cholla Needles features art and poetry from over 100 children who have grown up here in the Mojave and Colorado deserts. The magazine was a joint effort between the Mojave Desert Land Trust and the Cholla Needles Arts & Literary Library.

There are some really delightful poems and artwork featured in the magazine – you can see some examples at our previous story on Cholla Needles:

Speaking of the Mojave Desert Land Trust – their fall native plant sale is coming next week on October 8th. This year it returns to being in person, and you better believe they will sell out so plan on getting there early to avoid disappointment.

You can see an inventory of the plants they will have for sale at this link so you can figure out which ones to purchase for your water-wise desert dreamscape – don’t worry – we’ll remind you as we get closer to this highly-anticipated sale.
