Old School House Lectures start Friday at 29 Palms Historical Society

The Twentynine Palms Historical Society’s annual lecture series begins on Friday, September 9, at 7 p.m. with a presentation on the Serrano, Chemehuevi, and Cahuilla Indigenous People of the 29 Palms Region.

Sean Milanovich, is a member of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians grew up on the Agua Caliente Reservation on the eastern base of the San Jacinto Mountains and has a Ph.D. in American History from the University of California at Riverside. On Friday, September 9, Milanovich will talk about the history and life of Jim Pine, a local Serrano Indian, and spiritual leader. Pine lived and farmed with his family and his Chemehuevi relatives at the Oasis of Máara. Later, pioneers and prospectors moved into the area, claiming the land as their own.

The Old Schoolhouse Lecture series, presented by the Desert Institute and the Twentynine Palms Historical Society, is located at 6760 National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms.
