BODY OF JOSHUA TREE WOMAN FOUND SATURDAY MORNING IN LANDERS
THE BODY OF A JOSHUA TREE WOMAN WAS SPOTTED BY TWO PEOPLE DRIVING BY EARLY SATURDAY MORNING IN THE YUCCA MESA AREA. SHERIFF’S INVESTIGATORS SAY THE BODY OF TAMMIE CACERES, 47, WAS FOUND ON THE SIDE OF WARREN VISTA ROAD, 1.2 MILES NORTH OF ABERDEEN AT 7:30AM. SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES AND EMERGENCY PERSONNEL RESPONDED AND CONFIRMED THE DEATH AT 8:18AM. THE BODY HAD BEEN LEFT IN THE SOFT SHOULDER AREA BESIDE THE ROAD. SHERIFF’S HOMICIDE INVESTIGATORS RESPONDED AND FOUND THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF TRAUMA TO THE BODY. THEY SAY EVIDENCE LOCATED AT THE SCENE INDICATES TAMMIE CACERES DIED AT A DIFFERENT LOCATION, WAS TRANSPORTED BY A VEHICLE, AND LEFT WHERE SHE WAS FOUND. THE COUNTY CORONER SAID AN AUTOPSY WOULD BE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF DEATH. UNKNOWN WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN LUCERNE VALLEY
THE BODY OF AN UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN WAS FOUND DEAD IN THE DESERT NEAR LUCERNE VALLEY FRIDAY NIGHT WEST OF MIDWAY AVENUE, BETWEEN OLD WOMAN SPRINGS AND SUNSET ROADS. SHERIFF'S HOMICIDE DETECTIVES WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AT 6:55 P.M. TO INVESTIGATE. SHERIFF'S SPOKESWOMAN JODI MILLER SAID BUT THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF FOUL PLAY. NO IDENTIFICATION WAS FOUND ON THE BODY. CORONER'S AND SHERIFF'S INVESTIGATORS ARE WORKING TO TRY TO IDENTIFY THE WOMAN. AN AUTOPSY WILL BE PERFORMED.

19,000 COUNTY EMPLOYEES TO JOIN IN MASSIVE EARTHQUAKE DRILL
THE 19,000 EMPLOYEES OF SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY WILL ALL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE LARGEST EARTHQUAKE DRILL IN HISTORY, PLANNED FOR NOVEMBER 13. REPORTER KARL GARDNER SAYS MAKE YOUR PLANS TO GET INVOLVED IN THE GREAT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SHAKEOUT".... IT’S NOT GOING TO BE A PRETTY SCENE. A 7.8 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE ALONG THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE SAN ANDREAS FAULT. EXPERTS SAY A TEMBLOR OF THAT SIZE WILL CAUSE UPWARDS TO 1800 DEATHS, $200 BILLION IN DAMAGE, THOUSANDS OF FIRES, AND WILL ISOLATE DESERT COMMUNITIES. THAT’S THE SCENARIO FOR THE UPCOMING "GREAT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SHAKEOUT" THE LARGEST EARTHQUAKE DRILL IN U.S. HISTORY. PLANNED FOR NOVEMBER 13TH, THIS SHAKEOUT IS DESIGNED TO PREPARE CALIFORNIANS FOR OVER DUE SHAKER ON A FAULT THAT HAS NOT RUPTURED IN OVER 300 YEARS. AMONG THOSE JOINING IN, COUNTY 1ST DISTRICT SUPERVISOR BRAD MITZELFELT SAID THAT ALL 19,000 COUNTY EMPLOYEES WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE SHAKEOUT. MITZELFELT SAID, IT’S IMPORTANT THAT WE PARTICIPATE NOT ONLY AS A PUBLIC SAFETY AGENCY, BUT ALSO AS AN EMPLOYER BECAUSE THE IMPACTS OF THIS EARTHQUAKE WILL REACH FAR BEYOND WHAT WE HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. 17 YEAR OLD FOUND DEAD AFTER KELSO TRAIN BURGLARY
STILL SKETCHY INFORMATION TODAY ON A 17 YEAR OLD FOUND DEAD AFTER AN APPARENT BURGLARY OF A FREIGHT TRAIN AT THE NEARBY KELSO TRAIN STATION. ACCORDING TO THE COUNTY CORONER, AT ABOUT 8:30 SATURDAY NIGHT, UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD POLICE DISCOVERED A TRAIN TRAVELING THROUGH THE DESERT IN THE KELSO-CIMA HAD BEEN BURGLARIZED AND THE SUSPECTS WERE STILL IN THE AREA. RAILROAD POLICE AND U.S. NATIONAL PARK RANGERS CONDUCTED A WIDESPREAD AND EXTENSIVE SEARCH OF THE AREA, SUBSEQUENTLY APPREHENDING MULTIPLE SUSPECTS. DURING AN INTERVIEW, THEY WERE TOLD THAT ANOTHER SUSPECT HAD PASSED OUT IN THE DESERT. AFTER SEARCHING FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES, THEY FOUND A 17-YEAR-OLD MALE RESIDENT OF PARAMOUNT, CA AND PRONOUNCED HIM DEAD. THE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL BE DETERMINED AFTER AN AUTOPSY IS PERFORMED. THE NAME WILL BE RELEASED ONCE FAMILY HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD POLICE, U.S. NATIONAL PARK RANGER SERVICE AND THE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT ARE INVESTIGATING THE DEATH.

THEATRE 29 TO UNVEIL 2009 SEASON SEPTEMBER 11
THE THREE MAJOR MORONGO BASIN CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE WILL PARTNER WITH THEATER 29 TO UNVEIL THEIR 2009 THEATRICAL SEASON. THE SPECIAL EVENT WILL BE HELD AT THE JOSHUA TREE RETREAT CENTER SEPTEMBER 11TH AND WILL BE THE FIRST CHANCE TO SCORE 2009 THEATER 29 SEASON TICKETS. REPORTER KATIE ELWELL SAYS MARK THE DATE... THEATRE 29’S 2009 SEASON WILL BE UNVEILED AT A TRI-CHAMBER GALA ON THE EVENING OF SEPTEMBER 11 FROM 5 TO 7 AT THE NEWLY REFURBISHED JOSHUA TREE RETREAT CENTER. THE EVENING WILL PROVIDE AVID THEATRE ATTENDEES THEIR FIRST CHANCE AT SECURING SEASON TICKETS. SEASON TICKETS INCLUDE A RESERVED SEAT TO THE 2009 SEASON’S SIX STAGE PRODUCTIONS, AS WELL AS THE OCTOBER "HALLOWEEN HAUNT."

FRIDAY NIGHT TENNIS ENDS ITS SUMMER SEASON
FRIDAY NIGHT TEEN TENNIS ENDED ITS SUMMER SESSION AUG. 22, AT JACOBS PARK IN YUCCA VALLEY HERE. THIS YOUTH PROGRAM, CONTINUES TO ATTRACT SIGNIFICANT NUMBERS OF TEENS WHO ENJOY PLAYING TOURNAMENT TENNIS UNDER THE LIGHTS WITH FRIENDS, JOCK JAMS AND PIZZA. A FAST SERVE CONTEST USING SPORTS RADAR WAS THE FINAL TENNIS EVENT OF THE EVENING. WHITNEY RODRIGUEZ WAS THE ‘GIRL TOP GUN’ AT 73 MPH; KYLE FLEISCHMANN WAS THE BOY ‘FAST SERVE ACE’ AT 73 MPH. THIS WAS THE SUMMER’S FINAL FRIDAY NIGHT TENNIS SESSION BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS. TEEN TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS, KAYLA GUNN AND CHEYENNE WESTLAKE, WERE RECOGNIZED FOR EXTRAORDINARY LEADERSHIP AND EFFECTIVENESS. PARENTS, CINDY RODRIGUEZ, KIM FLEISCHMANN AND LARRY BATTLE, WERE COMMENDED FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING ASSISTANCE.

A JR. HIGH/MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS LEAGUE IS BEING PLANNED FOR THE FALL. TEAMS WILL PRACTICE DURING THE WEEK, AFTER SCHOOL, FOR AT LEAST 90 MINUTES AT PUBLIC TENNIS FACILITIES AND PLAY MATCHES SATURDAY MORNINGS. THE SEASON WILL RUN FROM SEPTEMBER 29 THROUGH NOVEMBER 22, 2008. PLAYERS MAY USE THEIR OWN RACQUET OR A LOANER WILL BE PROVIDED. THERE IS A SMALL FEE, WHICH INCLUDES FREE T-SHIRT IN TEAM COLORS.
